** VITAL PROPOSALS **

When the problem of Jerusalem sprang up, we proposed the INTERNATIONALIZATION of the city, and in the face of the tremendous conditions at the time, we sought to meet the odds by generously offering to solve these problems once for all in a humanitarian way. In fact, all much disputed territories constitutes motives of constant frictions plus fears and victims of religious or racial strife, as well as inevitable menace to international peace. We proposed to all the countries concerned that either the sore territorial points or a strip of land on both sides of the frontiers be entrusted to the Universal Alliance, which is the only truly civilian and private organization extant of this planet that is not dominated by a political power or any specific race, religion or sect and that had penchant whatever for politics, mystic-metaphysical proselytism, mercantile designs, or whatever sort of world dictatorship and totalitarian hegemony. The response was, of course, supreme 'outraged repulse'. They must have considered us freaks.

Had our noble plan been adopted, however, even in a symbolic way, much of the Palestine tragedy, and the whole Cashmere problem, as well as the present dramas of Cuba, Burundi, Algeria, Tibet, Santo Domingo, Rhodesia, Congo, Vietnam, etc, etc, would have been totally avoided.

Our Humanitarian Plan, it will be recalled, consisted in Mediating and Arbitrating among the opposed nations, at their own request. The strips of land granted to the Universal Alliance would have been forthwith developed by Refugees, Exiles and Apatrids from all the latitudes of the world. Agricultural and Industrial Co-operative Colonies would have been immediately established. Selected emigrant families would have been brought in. Cities, hospitals, Universities would have been built ipso facto. As for funds, we had then the assurance of ample collaboration by some financial groups sympathetical to our practical Peacemaking plans. One famous religious body, inclusive, offered to sell out some of its art treasures so as to contribute toward the realization of our propositions. Besides, the interested nations themselves would also have had the opportunity of contributing financially, as it would have been by all means much better to spend for peaceful purposes than to lose all  in gun-powder and war ruins ( in vain ) and undue monstrous bloodshed.

Twenty years later (*), the problems referred to still stand. Certainly worse. Where does freakiness really stand?

Some day, nevertheless, the present practice of land distribution among the nations will be obsolete. It certainly will soon be regarded as silly and inhuman. Today, tribal psychology still persists, unfortunately, despite the two million years of human evolutionary process.

But OUR PROPOSITIONS STILL STAND. Our plan can yet be carried out, to the advantage of all the nations and peoples concerned. It is not too late to proceed righteously. The Rhodesia, Vietnam, Cuba, Santo Domingo, Arabia, Holy Land, Burundi, Congo, Korea, etc problems could be liquidated in no time, and the cost would certainly be derisory.

Our way is that of HUMAN CONSCIENCE. We would require no fantastic and costly Council meetings, and no armed forces of any sort. What is more, we would afford a solution that satisfies all the peoples concerned as all would instantly derive extraordinary social, cultural and economic benefits, and at the same time we would be free all mankind from the scourge of war, once for all. Besides, no single racial body, nationalistic entity, religion or faith system would be the exclusive beneficiary. But that is perhaps too nice to be accepted, and too good to make true.

In the name of God, Truth, Humanity and the Golden Rule, why on earth are not human beings intelligent enough to at least TRY our unique Goodwill offer? Is it too democratic and too Christian? Or what?
