EGOTISM, SELFISHNESS, INSINCERITY AND LUST:

THE FOUR APOCALYPTICAL ENEMIES OF THE USU

Yes, these four modern apocalyptical monsters roughrider the surface of the world today, and work against the UNIVERSAL SERVICE UNION. They create difficulties for us, foment doubt, install fear and throw slurs at us so as to mislead people about us. They slander and malign the USU and its higher officials unceasingly, seeking to create confusion, distrust and hate, so to hinder its effectiveness and destroy its efforts.

These roughshod monsters are characteristic to egocentrism, and they easily lead to egolatry and pride, and to all the extremes of’ irresponsible superciliousness and psychopathic conditions. Fanatism, vices, hatred, nihilism, misogynism, mystic lewdness, covetousness and war, are the common results which upon human nature in these circumstances. Nothing better can be expected from such people, because they fashion life after their own egotistic standards, or according to their egolatric ambitions.

Recently we were saying: “Are accepted as Member-Partners of the USU all persons of good breeding and goodwill, regardless of their Faith, Race, Sex, Age, Creed, Nationality or personal claims, so long as they are honest and of honorable living; to be excluded, however, political grafters professional racketeers, crafty creatures, paid revo1utionists, unscrupulous mystics, crapulous gentry, prestigious nonentities, notorious rabble-rousers, and hereditary freaks”. Those whom we exclude, not being harmonious and fit for constructive endeavors, are not deemed acceptable, because they do not meet our standard of normal and dignifying life.

We could have widened our implications, and included among the excluded people, as radicals and menaces to society, those whom we mention in our leading caption above, that is EGOTISTS, SELFISH, INSINCERE AND LUSTFUL people, because they are always rash in their criticism, radical in their aims, and a menace to orderly and peaceful living. However, we want to remain tolerant, as much as possible, and extend to as many people the blessings of our compassion and assistance.

It is bad enough to have to crumble under the pressure of enemity and evil sectarian fanatic. Much worse it is, however, to have to suffer the consequences of irresponsible ruffians and inadaptable mystic from within, who distort even the noblest of ideals and destroy harmony wherever they find it. Therein lies the key to our attitude toward brazen inharmonious Brethren, who are not only misfits in any society, but actually refuse to be COOPERATIVE on any basis, except their own selfish designs. They are incapable of efforts toward UNDERSTANDING others, or in considering SERVICE as the foundation of a true human dignity and happiness.

The USU represents DIVERSITY OF IDEALS BONDED, IN UNITY OF PURPOSE, and MULTIPLICITY OF CONDITIONS IN UNIFORMITY OF ASPIRATION AND ULTIMATE GOAL in all the aspects of life. It believes in UNION FOR PROGRESS, not in “divide and rule”. It is sympathetical toward all forms of individual affirmation and group “sovereignty in autonomy”, but rejects SELFISHNESS, EGOCENTRISM, INSINCERITY AND LUST.

The USU has too great a task to achieve in the world, to offer it self to grafters, bickering, and irresponsible lots of improvised leaders or unbalanced autocrats. It must hold on to its hearings, and choose its leaders, and conform its efforts to the needs of mankind. It’s Idealism Practical, and it must not be interfered with by misplaced souls or egotistic cranks and daydreamers.

Selfishness is the basic condition for violence, and egotism is the forerunner of fanaticism, intolerance and menaces. There is psychological foundation to all ideals, and we must be prepared to make ideals effective on a sound basis of biological and psychological structure and mechanism. Otherwise, no spiritual Values are possible, and certainly no wholesome issues can be fostered in that manner.

Dictators and Autocrats, like Tyrants, are great egotists and egolatrics. Their whole life is the product of a quaint complex of selfishness. We will also find that all religious fanatics and political absolutists are thus distorted and twisted, not only in their mind but also in their ideas and aspirations. Their self–centeredness makes them enemies of all other people and unadaptable to all conditions except their own fabrication.

The USU is the sum mum of Spiritual Idealism in response to human needs. So let us cater to the Solutions that meet the needs of the greater number. Let this be said however, without malice or ill will toward anyone, and an open heart which beats compassively for all, and with a mind ever ready to help those in need, to heal the sick, to bless the erring, and to rescue the fallen.

The USU entertains no grudge toward anyone, and it cannot be intolerant or unkind at anytime, because its only function and ultimate aim is to SERVE. To us, SERVICE IS THE BEST WAY OF DEMONSTRATING RELIGIOUS EARNESTNESS AND PHILOSOPHICAL ENHANCEMENT.

We cultivate the best possibilities and aspirations in man by examplarizing the dignity of SERVICE, which is the only fitting vehicle for all true, ennobling ideals.

Furthermore, we believe that an Ideal or a Creed, which does not make us better today than we were yesterday, and better still tomorrow than we are now, is not worth catering to, or even bothering about. Ideals are not fancies or foamy lyrics, but sources, which we adopt for our own betterment and to ennoble Life.

Due to excessive demand, and lack of better means, we simply have to inform inquirers that they WILL HAVE TO WAIT for better opportunities. Our means are not up to our expectations, and we can only do as much as THE COOPERATION of willing idealists permits. Trustfully speaking we cannot MEET THE NEEDS so long as those concerned do not adequately collaborate.

NO FURTHER COPIES OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED can humanely be put out without adequate means. So once this last mimeographed edition of the booklets above mentioned are exhausted — we shall have a pause, so as to take our breath. IF SOME WILLING COLLABORATORS WILL COME TO HELP US, THEY ARE WELCOME. Our work is for all mankind, and it is surprising the number of people who cater in our direction.

WE ADMIT ALL SUSPICION AND CRITICISM, but for God
sake step dew from the pedestals of human selfishness and assist us.
