A hearthy Message to my People
autum 1945 ...

This is not a time for prejudice, discrimination, pride and selfishness. Let us be Citizens of the World, and Brethren of the Great Cosmic Family.

The UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL UNION is not concerned with political scrambles and personal interests of any kind, especially when these tend to trample upon other peoples’ natural rights and spiritual yearnings. Our main, immediate and unique purpose is to cater to Spiritual Values and to express Universal Principles, as well as to cultivate the best forms of exteriorization of the potentials of man.

We believe, foremost, that man is entitled to the best which he is capable of yearnings and dreaming about, because our life stuff proceeds from the inner recesses of our being, and we are exactly what we are worth, and we behave just as we are fit for. All individuals are naturally endowed with all the energies required to perform the needs of life, and it is in our own interest to respond to the imperatives of Nature as sincerely and earnestly as we can, because if we fail in this respect we simply foster our worst faith and create the many ugly things we loathe most, such as sickness, want, ignorance, distrust, vices, and last but not least unhappiness. We are, for sure, the masters of our own destiny, because no God would compromise on His-Its Perfection by responding to common human whims, silly ambitions and abject passions.

Our Corporation is, therefore, disconnected from all worldly and unholy purpose, and we want it clearly emphasized that POLITICAL and RELIGIOUS systems as forcefully actualized in these tragic days, do not receive our appreciation nor deserve a mite of enthusiasm from us, so long as they respond blindly to their orthodoxies and exclusive dogmas. We understand RELIGION only as an Educational Service, and POLITICS as a Social Security Service, and we believe that all systems that fail to comply to such aims simply exploit human credulity and morbid emotionalism, as well as current ignorance and biopsychological weakness.

We do not mean to be arrogant, or obnoxious, and neither do we care to spend any time on debatable notions, or on practices of questionable character. But if we at times take stands for any special cause outside of our educational duties and philosophical sphere, it is because we are, as we have already specified it, PRACTICAL IDEALISTS, and when it comes to defend issues that affect deep human interests, we are under obligation to voice the warnings of Nature and explain the needs of Human Conscience. Lest we forget -- We are at the service of Humanity, and our’s is the Command of Universal Conscience.

Now, let us be objective about the great problem that affects our community. India is certainly in need of a dramatic change, and we better face reality before we lose ourselves in the vertex of impassionate partisanship and unwise interests of questionable leaders. We will not try to solve the common political equation of present-day India by dreaming about our glorious Spiritual past, nor by systematically seeking to oppose established government, or taking sides with the many different factions that more or less rightly unfold banners of freedom within the borders of our present Indian reality. We will not use sparingly the common adjectives of our would-be religious and political liberators, and we will certainly not adopt in any way any Independence Movement, whether it be that of Nehru, or Jinnah; of Ambedkar, or Gandhi; of Azad, or that advocated by the alien occupant, generally considered as a usurper and a tyrant. We prefer to lay our sympathies with the people of India, our Beloved India, who is Motherland of all the great Religions and all the great philosophical systems of the world, integrated by 400.000.000 people who decidedly have a natural right to their own business and spiritual designs, to their tradition and labour, to their riches as well as in their earning capacity, without being subdued per sheer use of force and exploited by foreign Pharisees who impose their questionable morals on us in the name of confusing economical principles and still more unbearable ethics which appeal only to a bulk of 45.000.000 people of Great Britain.

The problems that burden India are plenty, and very critical. But they may be reduced to only three mayor categories, namely ECONOMY, EDUCATION, and ETHNOLOGY. Our standards of living are disastrous, because our economy is insignificant, unorganized and unguided, and much of this we owe to British rule, but also to ourselves. Our social standards are confusing, because our educational achievements are scant and unmethodical, and this we also owe to British rule, as much as to ourselves. Our Ethnological differences and antagonisms also carry the great forces of different religions, and again British rule has done a lot to maintain these tremendous drawbacks, or not enough to dissipate them in the course of their over lordship, and we, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, decidedly did not do what we should have done to obviate such tremendous problems. Of course, there is no problem too big in this wide world that man cannot solve with a little of goodwill and decency.

Now, let it be clearly emphasized that we are not on the market for any sort of appreciation, nor do we wish to be hailed as “Liberator of India” as some well-wishers have already stated. We have no Party, no “mandate from the people” and certainly no army nor money for any enterprise of this kind, nor do we advocate the conquest of freedom by way of force. If we had the money, our first measure would be surely to create at least three dozen Free Universities and a Thousand Free Civil Service Institutes, besides scores of Free Rural Schools, to begin with, and then we would educate the citizenry for community life on the basis of modern accomplishments, so that we could boast a better standard of living, and, at least, a justifiable if not commendable existence, by means of a winsome philosophy. We still can do that, of course, and may you do so.

But what we mean to say is that India will not gain much in the diverse present formulas of freedom, so long as we do not adopt a Spiritual Dynamics, and demonstrate to ourselves through sound education, economic coordination and ethnological mutualism, that national independence means to us more than a mere emotional whim, or a matter of pride.

We certainly are not treading on flowers. But let us not seek our social emancipation on the same basis of concepts and principles which have proven such a curse to all the other nations as far. As a matter of fact, wherein lays the dignity and happiness of the people in the present-day forms of nationalism in other latitudes? Are politics life-saving devices for the countless ailments of human society today? Have other nations a better destiny than the people which they extort, spoliate, and impose upon?

Let us not delude ourselves that easily. It is alright to EXPOSE the wrong, and to demand the right to redress. But why adopt the curses of other nations? Let us beware of our own delusions too. Let us not make the same blunders as China, Russia, Poland, and so many other countries, which can vaunt their own brand of freedom, but corroded by countless social evils and economic problems, Let us beware !

Are we prepared for national independence? Can we really do without an oppressor? Is India capable of economic self-sufficiency, cultural consistency, and social maturity at present? We should answer ourselves these questions in the shrine of our hearts, and if or when we can safely respond affirmatively, we may be sure that we will be ripe for Freedom.

What happens today to other people, such as Java, Greece, Poland, China, Iran, and so many others, is the convincing evidence that the world is compromising on the principles of the Atlantic Charter, and the experiences of today will be sad lessons to remember. But these are indications as to what we should expect in the next future. Freedom is to be conquered by sheer might of brawns and brains, or by the right of culture. Of course our choice is THE RIGHT OF CULTURE.

Meanwhile, with the failure of the much heralded Simla conference, India faces today a tragic economic and politic crisis, and to Great Britain this is a problem that weighs too heavily to be prolonged. This could be the problem that will provide the spark for a new world conflagration, too. Why not try to bring this gruesome problem to an end by creating a combined Government of Free India, composed of say Three Members, two for Free India and one for the British Crown, and constitute at once an All-India Parliament free of all foreign interference? Thus only could British interests be protected and respected, and Indian Rights and Dignity duly upheld and defended.

It is not necessary to destroy British interests in order to attain to the true Free India ideal. Man can be devoted to his own interests and still respect and defend those of others. Of course, we are not politicians, and our formula may not sound right; but we intend to remain human in spite of our interests, and we know that it pays to keep Peace and make Friends.

Just how we could survive to such a condition is rather simple. Why not resort to the practice of referendum, as effectuated in Switzerland, Norway and Sweden? This is not an easy task when it comes to sample out the consensus of 400.000.000 people, surely enough. But if a preparatory period of months, or years for that matter, was fixed, and then the referendum held, there are chances that all parties concerned would gladly and most eagerly cooperate. Meanwhile, Britain could police the process and an International Commission could be called here in token of good faith for supervision of what would be an exceptional experiment in social rehabilitation, as well as in effective Democracy.

However, our main concern must be for SPIRITUAL UNITY. It is not enough to say: “I am a Hindu first, then a Mohammedan”, or “My India is the Gift of Brahma”, or again, “India is the Mother of the World”. We could equally say that “India is the Heart of the World”, and thus we should all Unite, and beat and feel harmoniously, in supreme friendship, moved by a single Ideal and Conscience, which is that of the Universe. Thus only would be plights of India end, and we could look squarely into the future with all our might, because joy, happiness, and plenty would be ours.

Spiritual might has no equal and knows no limit. The SPIRITUAL UNITY of India is at hand, thanks to our surveillance and goodwill. We are bringing all people together, and before we know it the UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL UNION will be firmly established in all our beautiful and bountiful land. If Divinity sought fit to Bless India in the past, giving rise to the great marvellous expression of art and culture, why should it not be so again? Why should we keep in slumbering in the numbness of our indifference and sterile orthodoxies? Why heed passing emotional dreams and delusions, or stake our happiness in economic and social rehabilitation, but simply turning our back to present-day realities and forgetting the Essentials of our Spiritual history? Let us not make the same mistake as again, like other people, and may we look into our hearts and find the Blessings of UNITY. Therein lays the essence of our life, and also the solution of all our problems.

If we prefer to keep on divided and tracked down by all the miseries that have befallen us in recent Centuries, we may imitate other nations and yield to our whims and unruly passions. But if we really want to attain greatness as a people and as a nation, let us remember our greatness of yore, which laid exclusively on Spiritual attainment. The only greatness worth striving and living for is Spiritual attainment; all other achievements and conquests are more material development, the flourishing of ever, delusive flashes of Maya.

India could yet be an example to the world, and at no other time of human history has the world needed so much our Spiritual aid. We can easily bring the Spiritual Blessing on the world, and it is what the UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL UNION is actually doing.

India does not need to depend on any other country, and we certainly can develop our economy to meet our own demands, and more, too. But our multiple conditions offer us a unique opportunity to lead the way in the solution of human problems. India is the birth ground of great philosophies, the melting-pot of different races, and also the altar upon which the greatest religions worship in supreme harmony. Yet let us not yield to common temptations, falling in excesses of ruthless economics, because these lead directly to social regimentation, and forceful nationalism, or Fascism. This NATIOANLISM is definitely an obsolete form of human society, and ECONOMICS must develop on more humanistic principles if it is to really help humankind, instead of conducing, as of yore, to untold social conflicts and endless wars. Thus is why, indeed, we have been advocating principles of UNITY, and propounding means of BROTHERHOOD.

This may not be easily realized, but the world is evolving toward the Triumph of Ideals. The PARLIAMENT OF MAN is day by day becoming better understood, and humanity is realizing that world problems will never be solved by means of “secret diplomacy”, “power policies”, or even by “Atomic Bombs” but by giving the people of the world a chance to settle their differences among themselves, in the hearty and cheerful way of honest businessmen and good natured, and well bred souls. As we have already affirmed, the world is confronted with serious problems and the only safe issue to true Peace and lasting Happiness for man on this earth is the Commonwealth of United States of the World, and this means the end of rugged nationalism, ruthless economics, and political and religious intolerance, or totalitarianism.

This is the Cosmic Voice. We want all our readers to realize that we speak on behalf of all those concerned, and that we are on our own right exponents of ideals that are called upon to be examples and the mould for the ushering in New Age. Our ideals can be fixed into a convenient Charter of Free India, and we expect the people of India to decide for what they prefer.

And remember, violence never solves any problem; it only engenders other worse ones. Peace is the reward of a clear heart, a strong mind, and an enlightened Spirit.

In regards to the complete solution of world problems, which are definitely HUMAN PROBLEMS, and as such, basically of an individual nature, we will refer to our readers to our other literature, where our work and Service is well explained. To Members of the UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL UNION we will state at once that our aims are intended toward human regeneration as well as social and economical rehabilitation. Please consult our text on “Spiritual Science”.

In the coming fall we will issue a World Message regarding the basic causes of human ailments, which two world wars should have eradicated, but did not, and, instead, have unreasonably intensified and brutally exalted.
